Exactly what the doctor ordered - the CBD penicillin cocktail

If you are looking for the perfect quarantine cocktail, you will hardly find a drink with a better name than penicillin. While this cocktail may not “cure what ails you,” it will certainly put you in a healthy state of mind. Anyone who likes scotch with a little spice and citrus will have no problems with this “recipe”.

Of course, we couldn’t help but add a dropper of our “healing” CBD oil made from hemp to this “medicinal” brew. CBD may not be as powerful as an antibacterial agent, but please don’t neglect the therapeutic potential of this cannabinoid!

CBD penicillin cocktail

Without a doubt, the most exotic ingredient in penicillin is a spirit known as Laphroaig. This Scottish whiskey falls into a specific category known as ‘Islay Single Malts’ and is usually aged for about 10-15 years.

Given the name of this cocktail, it should come as no surprise that Laphroaig has a “medicinal” taste. Other common words used to describe Laphroaig’s taste are “peaty”, “boggy” and “smoky”.

If you’ve never had an Islay single malt before, it may take you a few sips to get used to the distinctive taste of this spirit. We recommend trying a little of this whiskey before making the penicillin to gauge your reaction. While you could use other Islay single malts, Laphroaig is the most popular brand for the penicillin cocktail.

ingredients

  • 2 ounces of scotch
  • ¾ ounces of lemon juice
  • 3/8 ounce honey syrup
  • 3/8 ounces ginger syrup
  • Dash from Laphroaig
  • 1 drop of Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Fresh ginger slices

Directions

  • Put scotch, lemon juice, honey syrup and ginger syrup in a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake for a few seconds
  • Strain into a stone glass filled with ice
  • Float a shot of Laphroaig by pouring it over the back of a bar spoon
  • Garnish with tribe CBD oil and slices of ginger

The easiest way to improve any cocktail recipe is to use homemade ingredients. DIY syrups not only taste better, they are also free from unnecessary additives and artificial sugar.

Fortunately, it’s super easy to make your own honey syrup at home. As we explained in the CBD Brown Derby recipe, honey syrup is a combination of warm water and honey (duh). The full recipe for making honey syrup can be found in this post.

While ginger syrup is a little more difficult to make at home, it isn’t all that difficult with a blender and a nut bag. All you have to do is puree equal parts white sugar, boiling water, and fresh ginger in your blender until smooth. Next, pour this mixture into your nut bag over a bowl and strain it off. You can then fill this syrup into an airtight bottle and put it in the refrigerator for about 1 to 2 weeks.

If you’re not in the mood for ginger syrup, you can mix fresh ginger in your cocktail jar before shaking it. Just keep in mind that this will make your drink extra hot. To “inject” a little sweetness, you may want to add a dab of plain syrup.
