Peter Pan or Peter Pan: The Boy Who Would Never Grow Up (1904) by JM Barrie is perhaps one of the most adapted children’s stories of all time. The original piece was converted into a novel (called Peter and Wendy) by Barrie in 1911 and has countless iterations in popular culture, from books like Peter and the Starcatchers to the classic 1953 Disney animated film Peter Pan and many more plays and books.

Now Disney is transforming the iconic story of the boy who never grows up into a brand new movie with an all-star cast. Peter Pan & Wendy was featured as one of a series of direct-to-streaming films by The Walt Disney Company in December 2020. Peter Pan & Wendy will debut in 2022, and you can find the film at release as well as the original animated Peter Pan on Disney +.

What can you expect from Peter Pan & Wendy?

Enjoy this Disney classic with all the iconic characters you have come to know and love.

Peter Pan & Wendy will explore the story of Peter Pan in a way fans have never seen it before, with a brand new cast to play the familiar characters we know and love. The title characters Peter Pan and Wendy Darling will be played by Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson, respectively, and Yara Shahidi will play the iconic role of Tinker Bell, Peter’s fairy companion. Jude Law will also play the villainous pirate Captain Hook, and the Darling family will be led by Alan Tudyk as Mr. Darling, alongside Molly Parker as Mrs. Darling, Joshua Blue Pickering as John Darling and Jacobi Jupe as Michael Darling.

Peter Pan & Wendy are directed by Peter Lowery. Writer Toby Halbrooks is credited with the 1953 animated film adaptation alongside the original writers, which perhaps suggests that the 2022 film will stay pretty close to the animated original. From the published teaser trailer, the bells of Big Ben are overlaid with the ticking of a clock – probably the clock was stuck in the crocodile of Captain Hook’s nightmares – and we see London’s Tower Bridge shrouded in fog before we see the film’s logo.

Disney has produced several Peter Pan adaptations and series over the years, from the original 1953 film to several films and series that focus on the fairy Tinker Bell and her friends. Disney hasn’t announced an official premiere date for Peter Pan & Wendy yet, but when the film releases you can find it on Disney +.
