Square sunglasses will quickly become summer accessories
Think back to two weeks ago. Cloudy skies dampened our already depressed mood; Torrential rains forced us to use umbrellas, suggesting that anoraks and waterproof hoods would be the only clothing we would need for the doomed gray months ahead. Look at us now! The world is flooded with sunlight. And in the warm weather, Hailey Bieber’s latest stream of Instagram posts, recorded in sunny LA, is now the inspiration for the rest of us.
Like Hailey, we can all enjoy the wonderful sunshine and take in the numerous spring / summer trends that came to light last September. Instead of umbrellas, our weatherproof weapons are now sunglasses – and the It-Girls already capitalized on the shape of the frame this summer. Angular, sculptural hues make the rounds in the street style set, and luckily the universally flattering silhouette suits every face shape.

Linda Farrow’s collaboration with Milan-based fashion house The Attico – another brand name that appears frequently in our feeds thanks to its iconic disco-ready Devon mules – has been cited as the main supplier of sculptural sunglasses. Farrow’s son Simon Jablon revived the brand in 2003 after a 20-year hiatus, catapulting it into the spotlight as a go-to for vintage-inspired frames. His decision to team up with Attico founders Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio is a serious step in power: designs created during their partnership have been replenished multiple times. In addition to the sharp-edged Marfas – which were also worn by Dua Lipa – Hailey favored the Gigis with a retro feel, both in black and in cherry red. Another fan of the series, Irina Shayk has marked the gigis as her favorite style.

British independent label Dmy by Dmy is another popular supplier of nostalgic frames. Hailey, Irina and Kendall Jenner have various timeless brand styles in their repertoire – the latter wore the slim Preston and the square, oversized Lucas, both of which were handcrafted from Italian acetate.

And then of course there is Rihanna, the undisputed queen of statement sunglasses. Given the multitude of styles the singer has worn over the past year, one can only assume that she has her own closet for her statement sunglasses. Trendy rectangular sunglasses are among their favorite sunglasses, including Kuboraum’s taupe X5s, glowing bright neon iterations from Gucci, and a generous helping of styles from their own Fenty line.
